How this calculator works
Dividend yield tells you the cash return you're earning from dividends alone, as a percentage of the current share price: Dividend yield % = (Dividend per share ÷ Share price) × 100.
Total annual dividend income is simply the dividend per share multiplied by how many shares you hold: Total dividend = Dividend per share × Number of shares.
This is a snapshot calculation — it doesn't project future dividend growth, reinvestment, or capital gains from price movement. It only tells you the income yield at the price and dividend you enter.
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Share price | ₹500 |
| Annual dividend per share | ₹10 |
| Shares held | 100 |
| Dividend yield | 2.00% |
| Total annual dividend income | ₹1,000 |
Dividend per share and share price are figures you enter — this calculator doesn't look up or assume any specific company's actual dividend history or current market price. Always check the company's latest declared dividend and live market price before relying on this.
Dividend income has to be declared and taxed at your slab rate — Shunya's CA team can help you file it correctly.
Talk to a CA →What is dividend yield?
Dividend yield is the annual dividend per share expressed as a percentage of the current share price. It tells you how much cash income you're earning from dividends relative to what you'd pay to buy the stock today, separate from any price appreciation.
Is dividend income taxable?
Yes, added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Dividend distribution tax was abolished, so dividends are now taxable in the recipient's hands rather than being taxed at the company level before payout.
Does a high dividend yield mean a good stock?
Not necessarily. A falling share price can inflate the yield without the company actually paying more in dividends. Don't treat a high yield alone as a signal of quality — check whether the dividend is sustainable and why the yield is high.
Does this calculator account for dividend growth over time?
No — this calculator shows a single snapshot based on the dividend per share and price you enter. It doesn't project future dividend increases or reinvestment; use it to check yield and income at a point in time.
