cloud kitchens, manufacturers, and exporters rely on us to get their FSSAI category right the first time.
"We started as a two-person cloud kitchen and didn't realise we needed FSSAI registration until a delivery aggregator asked for our license number. Shunya got our Basic Registration sorted in days, fully online."
"Our turnover crossed the old ₹12 lakh limit and I panicked about needing a full State License overnight. Turns out the 2026 threshold change meant we still qualified for Basic Registration — saved us a lot of paperwork."
"We export spice blends and needed a Central License regardless of our turnover. Shunya's team handled the FoSCoS filing and explained exactly why Central applied to us even though we're a small operation."
What are the FSSAI turnover limits in 2026?
Effective 1 April 2026, FSSAI raised its turnover thresholds: Basic Registration now covers turnover up to ₹1.5 crore (up from ₹12 lakh), a State License covers ₹1.5 crore to ₹50 crore, and a Central License applies beyond ₹50 crore — or to specific categories like importers, exporters, and multi-state operators regardless of turnover.
Do I need FSSAI registration or a license?
It depends on your annual turnover and business type. Basic Registration suits small food businesses under ₹1.5 crore turnover. A State License applies once turnover crosses ₹1.5 crore, up to ₹50 crore. Certain categories — importers, exporters, multi-state operators, and large manufacturers — need a Central License regardless of turnover. Tell us your details and we'll confirm which one applies.
Is FSSAI registration now valid for life?
Yes. Reforms approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in March 2026 give FSSAI registrations and licenses perpetual validity, replacing the earlier 1-5 year renewal cycle. You still pay the prescribed annual fee and file an annual Food Safety Compliance Report (FSCR), but there's no fresh renewal application every few years.
How long does it take to get an FSSAI license?
Basic Registration for eligible small businesses is largely instant online, since the 2026 reforms removed mandatory pre-inspection for this category. A State or Central License takes longer, since it still involves document verification and, depending on your risk category, an inspection. We'll give you a realistic estimate once we see your category and documents.
What happens if I operate a food business without FSSAI registration?
Operating without a valid FSSAI registration or license is an offence under Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 — punishable with imprisonment of up to 6 months and a fine of up to ₹5 lakh. Most food delivery aggregators, marketplaces, and B2B buyers also won't onboard a business without a valid FSSAI number.
Can I get FSSAI registration without a GST number?
Yes — GST registration isn't required for FSSAI Basic Registration; the two are separate compliances. GST only becomes mandatory once your turnover crosses the GST threshold, and by then you've usually also crossed into State License territory, where a GST certificate is typically asked for as a supporting document.
Do street food vendors need separate FSSAI registration in 2026?
Street food vendors registered with a Municipal Corporation or Town Vending Committee under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 are now deemed registered under FSSAI too, under the March 2026 reforms. If you aren't registered under the Street Vendors Act, standard FSSAI Basic Registration still applies.
What does your fee include?
Category confirmation (Basic, State, or Central) so you don't apply for the wrong one, document review, FoSCoS application preparation and filing, and follow-up until your registration or license is issued. Government fees (₹100 for Basic, ₹2,000–5,000 for State, ₹7,500 for Central, per year) are separate and paid directly on the portal.
