How this calculator works

PPF contributions are typically made at the start of each financial year and earn compound interest annually. This calculator uses the annuity-due formula: Maturity Value = Contribution × [((1 + rate)years − 1) / rate] × (1 + rate), where the rate is the current PPF interest rate.

The current PPF interest rate is 7.1% per annum, compounded annually, effective for the July-September 2026 quarter — unchanged since April 2020. Small savings scheme rates, including PPF, are reviewed quarterly by the government and can change, so future contributions may earn a different rate than the one used here.

PPF basics

FeatureDetail
Current interest rate7.1% p.a., compounded annually (Jul-Sep 2026 quarter)
Maximum annual contribution₹1.5 lakh per financial year
Minimum annual contribution₹500 per financial year
Standard tenure15 years, extendable in blocks of 5 years
Tax treatmentEEE — exempt at investment, accumulation, and withdrawal (Section 80C)

This calculator assumes a fixed contribution made at the start of each year and a constant interest rate throughout the tenure, for simplicity. Actual PPF accounts accrue interest based on the lowest balance between the 5th and last day of each month, and the rate can change every quarter — so your real maturity value may differ slightly from this estimate.
