How this calculator works

The National Savings Certificate (NSC) is a government-backed fixed-income savings scheme with a fixed 5-year term. Interest is compounded annually at the current NSC rate, and the full maturity amount — principal plus accumulated interest — is paid out at the end of the 5 years.

The formula used is: Maturity value = Investment × (1.077) ^ 5, using the current 7.7% per annum rate compounded annually.

For example, an investment of ₹1,00,000 grows to approximately ₹1,44,903 at maturity — an interest gain of ₹44,903 over the 5-year term.
