How this calculator works

KVP (Kisan Vikas Patra) is a government-backed savings certificate that works on a simple promise: your money doubles by maturity. At the current notified rate of 7.5% per annum, that doubling period works out to 115 months — 9 years and 7 months.

So the maturity value is simply: Maturity value = Investment amount × 2, paid out at the end of 115 months from the date of investment.

Interest earned is the difference between the maturity value and what you put in: Interest = Maturity value − Investment amount, which by definition works out to exactly the same as your original investment.

Worked example

InvestmentRateDoubling periodMaturity Value
₹1,00,0007.5% p.a.115 months (9y 7m)₹2,00,000

The doubling period is set by the currently notified KVP interest rate, which the government reviews quarterly along with other small savings schemes. If the rate changes for future investments, the doubling period for new certificates changes too — but certificates you've already purchased keep the terms they were issued under.
