How this calculator works
If your amount is exclusive of GST, the calculator adds GST on top: GST amount = Amount × rate ÷ 100, and Total = Amount + GST amount.
If your amount is inclusive of GST, the calculator works backward: Base amount = Amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST amount = Amount − Base amount. The total stays the same as what you entered.
For intrastate supply (buyer and seller in the same state), the GST amount splits equally into CGST and SGST. For interstate supply, the full amount is charged as IGST instead.
Current GST rate slabs (2026)
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 0% | Essential goods and services exempted from GST |
| 5% | Most items previously at 12%, plus items already at 5% |
| 18% | The standard rate — most goods and services, plus most items previously at 28% |
| 40% | Select luxury and sin goods — tobacco products, pan masala, high-end luxury items |
This reflects the GST 2.0 rate rationalization effective 22 September 2025, which replaced the earlier 5-slab structure (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) with a simpler 4-tier one. Always confirm the exact rate for your specific goods or services — rates can vary by HSN/SAC code.
If this calculator shows you're crossing the threshold, Shunya's CA team can file your GST registration end to end.

Since the GST 2.0 reform took effect on 22 September 2025, India uses a simplified 3-slab structure: 5%, 18%, and a 40% rate for select luxury and sin goods (tobacco, pan masala, high-end luxury items). The earlier 12% and 28% slabs were removed — most items that were at 12% moved to 5% or 18%, and most items at 28% moved to 18%. Many essential goods remain at 0%.
What's the difference between GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive amount?
A GST-exclusive amount is the price before GST is added — you calculate GST on top of it. A GST-inclusive amount already has GST built in, so the calculator works backward to extract the GST portion and the base price. Use whichever matches how your price is quoted.
When do I use CGST/SGST vs IGST?
CGST and SGST apply to intrastate supply — when the buyer and seller are in the same state — and split the total GST equally between the central and state governments. IGST applies to interstate supply, where the full GST amount goes as a single integrated tax. Choose based on where your buyer is located, not where your business is registered.
Is this GST calculator accurate for filing my GST return?
This calculator gives you the correct GST math for a given rate and amount, but it doesn't replace your GST return filing, which depends on your specific transactions, input tax credit, and reconciliation. Use it for quick pricing and invoicing checks — for actual filing, work with your CA.
