Goal Planning Calculator

Adjust any savings goal for inflation and find the monthly SIP you'd need to reach it.

A planning assumption, not a forecast — 6% is a commonly used estimate for general goals in India.
The return you assume your SIP investment will earn. Market-linked returns aren't guaranteed — enter a rate you consider realistic for how you'll invest.
Required Monthly SIP
₹16,224
Goal amount (today's terms)₹10,00,000
Inflation-adjusted future goal₹13,38,226
Total amount invested₹9,73,416

How this calculator works

This calculator works in two steps.

Step 1 — inflate the goal. Your goal amount today doesn't cost the same in the future. It's inflated forward using your expected inflation rate: Future goal = Goal amount × (1 + inflation ÷ 100)years.

Step 2 — find the required SIP. The future goal value is then run backward through the standard SIP future-value formula to find the fixed monthly investment needed to reach it, given your expected annual investment return. With monthly rate r = annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100 and n = years × 12 months:

Required monthly SIP = Future goal ÷ ( [((1 + r)n − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r) )

Total amount invested is simply the required monthly SIP multiplied by the number of months — compare this to the future goal value to see how much of your goal comes from your own contributions versus investment growth.

This tool ignores inflation at your own risk if you skip Step 1 — a goal set only in today's rupees will fall short by the time you actually need the money, because prices rise every year between now and your target date.

Frequently Asked Question

Why adjust my goal for inflation?

A ₹10 lakh goal 5 years from now needs to buy the same as ₹10 lakh today, which costs more in future rupees. Ignoring inflation understates what you actually need to save — this calculator inflates your today's-terms goal to its future rupee value first, then works out the SIP needed to hit that larger number.

Frequently Asked Question

How is the required monthly SIP calculated here?

In two steps. First, your goal amount in today's terms is inflated forward using your expected inflation rate to get the future goal value. Second, that future value is run backward through the standard SIP future-value formula, using your expected annual investment return, to find the fixed monthly investment that would grow to exactly that amount by your target year.

Frequently Asked Question

What if I already have some savings toward this goal?

This calculator assumes you're starting from zero. If you already have a lump sum set aside for this goal, reduce your effective target manually — or use the Mutual Fund Calculator, which combines an existing lumpsum with an ongoing SIP.

Frequently Asked Question

Is the required SIP guaranteed to hit my goal?

No. It depends on actually achieving the assumed annual return, which isn't guaranteed for market-linked investments like mutual funds. Treat the required SIP as a planning estimate based on your assumptions, not a promised outcome.
